Elementary Counselors help:

Students – feel good about themselves, set attainable goals, develop positive relationships, learn decision-making and problem-solving skills, improve academic progress, and realize responsibility for their behavior.

Teachers – create a positive learning environment, meet the individual needs of the student, and by providing suggestions for behavior management.

Parents – understand their part in their child’s learning experience, understand child development and behavior, and make use of community resources.

 

 

School counselors provide many services.  They:

       Help identify needs of students.

        Promote positive attitudes and choices.

        Provide encouragement and motivation for

Academic achievement.

        Maintain confidentiality.

        Assist students at risk.

        Consult with parents and school personnel.

        Can provide referrals to outside agencies.

       

 

Giddings Elementary School’s counselor is:

       Karen Hester.  Mrs. Hester received her BS in Education from Southwest Texas State University in 1990, and MA in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University in 2003.   Mrs. Hester has 11 years of classroom experience, and this is her 4th  year as GES school counselor. 

        Mrs. Hester loves working with young children, helping each child to understand him/herself better.  Watching and assisting children as they learn to make good decisions and solve problems is very exciting!  Mrs. Hester feels fortunate to be a part of such a great school, with a wonderful staff, and caring parents.
