The Giddings High School art club consists of people who are in advanced art classes. The art club earns money each year to create a scholarship for those who show a strong continuing interest in art, and help them attend a college for the arts.
The Art Club Sponsor: Mr. Mott The art club does several fund raising activities. Instead of charging dues, the club requires that one work in the concession stand to raise money for the club. Also there is a yearly art sale, where students donate their pieces in order to sell for the profit of the club. All these activities are used for raising money for up to two trips a year and the Art Club scholarship. Art Club trips usually consist of at least one art museum coupled with another place of interest. Members are usually expected to fill out a sheet commenting on a piece of art.
Mr. Mott talks about Art Club T-Shirts The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is a program started in 1978 by the NAEA or National Art Education Association. It was started specifically for students in grade levels 10-12 for the purpose of recognizing those students who show an outstanding talent and/or interest in art. NJAHS (National Junior Art Honor Society) became a separate branch of the NAHS in 1989 to promote the same principals of the NAHS in grade levels 7-9 and help feed students interests in art. The GHS art club is now independent of the NAHS, they are a branch all their own. After several years in conjunction with the NAHS the GHS art program is now one of the independent clubs of GHS itself.
