About Beta

      Beta is a forty  year old national honor society that promotes leadership and character skills .  It was developed to help communities.  It is a very big honor to a part of Beta and not very many people are excepted into an extravagant club.  In order to be accepted, a person applying must meet certain guidelines and qualifications.  After meeting these requirements, new members must say the National Beta pledge to a current sponsor or officers.  After this, they will be inducted at the Induction ceremony and become an actual member.   Beta members are able to qualify for the Beta scholarship (money earned by dues and fundraisers).  

Qualifications and Requirements

                      Qualifications                       Requirements
*Students who are applying must have a 3.5 G.P.A. or better 

* Students must not have more than one referral in the year he/she is applying.

*Students must not be sent to GAP

*Must be approved  by the principal, their current teachers, and the current Beta members.

*Those accepted as new members must memorize and recite the Beta pledge at the beginning of the school to a sponsor or officer.

* Members must maintain a 3.5 G.P.A. or better

*Members who are failing will be placed on probation. Those who have a failing grade at the end of the semester will be excluded from the club.

*Members must complete 5 hours of individual  community service each semester. A total of ten hours. Members must also do club's service projects. Those who don't complete anything will be dismissed from the club.

* Seniors who do not complete the community service hours will not receive a Beta stole at graduation.

 

The Beta Pledge

 

I solemnly declare that I shall always strive to hold fast to the principles of

honesty to endeavor constantly to maintain a creditable record, to 

cultivate in my life and  conduct the principles of  service and

leadership.  I further pledge myself to cooperate with the members of the National

Beta club in the promotion of a sense of individual responsibility to our school,

community, state, and nation, to make right the master of might and to

consecrate our comradeship to mutual helpfulness and to the

betterment of our fellow students.

 Induction Ceremony

(Held on October 11, 2006 in the GHS Library)

       

          

Old members prepare for the Induction ceremony.  They were called in early during first period to set up chairs and refreshments.  They hung out  with the extra time they had leftover.

New members walk formally to their seats after being call into the library.  They were seated in Alphabetical order in two rows.

         

         

Parents and old Beta members arrive to the library before the new members arrive.  This time was used for seating arrangements and setup.

Juniors Jenny Zoch, Christina Segundo, and Rebecca Saunders recite  their pledges after president Kacie Krause.  New Beta members had two weeks to memorize their pledges and recite it in order to be excepted into the club.  They also had to pay a due of $13.

"Kiss the Pig"

                         Community Service                                                      

         

             

Senior Kacie Krause reads to a little girl  for the host program.  Host is held on every Wednesday at the elementary school and  is  one of many options for community service for Beta..

Juniors Kristin Becker, Regan Frische, and senior Amanda Gonzales help deliver the "kiss the pig" jars to teachers' rooms.
