Physical Science
Instructor - Mrs. Fromme & Mrs. Placke
Grade - 9th
Physical Science is a course involving two major branches of science: chemistry and physics. Students learn about solar energy, machines, chemical changes, radiation, electricity, and other topics that effect our lives on a daily basis. Practical application is stressed as students study the concepts behind the working of such things as television, electric motors and nuclear power plants. Students are made aware of individual responsibility in the conservation of natural resources.
Physics
Instructor - Mrs. Placke
Prerequisite - Biology I or Physical Science
Grade - 10th - 12th
The main objectives of this course are (1) to develop an understanding our physical environment; (2) to understand the concepts, facts and principals of physics, both mathematically and verbally; (3) to apply concepts, facts and principles through
laboratory investigations; (4) practice in remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating information.
Biology
Instructors - Mr. Carl
Prerequisites - PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Grade - 9th, 10th
This course is designed to offer a study of the unique properties of living organisms. Emphasis is placed one cology, heredity, cellular biology and the scientific method. Laboratory activities concentrate on the solution of problems by the application of biological concepts and principles.
Pre AP Biology
Instructor -Mrs. Dock
Prerequisite - Alga. I, 90+ in Physical Science
Grade - 9th, 10th
This course will include the study of such topics as cell biology, genetics, microbiology, plants, animals and ecology. Since students will be expected to be able to read and understand the text without extensive guidance, class time will be for in-depth discussion, observation labs and laboratory experiments. Lab work will be highly individualized. Students will be expected to design and conduct experiments. Students will need to posses a high degree of self-motivation to be successful in this course. Students taking this class as a freshmen will have the opportunity to take Chemistry and Physics, and still take Biology AP and/or Chemistry AP.
AP Biology
Instructor - Mrs. Dock
Prerequisite - Bio I, Chem. I, 90%
The Biology Advanced Placement course is designed to provide capable and motivated students with the opportunity to obtain college credit while enrolled in high school. This course is comparable to a first-year college course, therefore, students should be prepared for homework and reading assignments nightly. Topics emphasized in AP Biology include biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and lab skills
Chemistry
Instructor - Mrs. Hilberling
Prerequisite - Biology I or Physical Science
Grade - 10th-12th
Chemistry is a laboratory oriented college prep course designed for students who desire intensive study in the quantities aspects of chemistry. This class is designed students who plan a career in physical, biological or related sciences, pre-medical studies or engineering. A sound understanding of the concepts of algebra is essential for success in this course.
AP Chemistry
Instructor - Mrs. Hilberling
Prerequisite - 90% Chemistry I
Grade - 11th-12th
AP Chemistry is a continuation of Chemistry 1. Topics will be similar however they will be covered in depth with more emphasis on problem-solving. Descriptive chemistry and laboratory practice will also be emphasized. An excellent background in mathematics is essential for success in the course.
Human Anatomy & Physiology
Instructor - Mrs. Dock
Prerequisite - Biology I and Chemistry I
Grade - 11th & 12th
This course will explore human anatomy and physiology through observation of anatomical structures and their functions. Laboratory experimentation will include data acquisition for quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as dissection. This class is ideal for the student interested in pursuing a career in health science.
